Georgiegirl's Tutorial for a Two tiled Portrait using Layers in PSP |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This tutorial is very worth while once you can do this you will be able to use these principles to make rugs, tables, beds ,3 tile murals and 3 tile couchs.without a break in a pattern. First we need a graphic with which to make our portrait. I have chosen the one to the right. I will bring this up in psp and the sprites for the sims. I am going to use Paintings Mondrians for my sprites and Holly Hobby for my graphic. |

Make sure all of your sprites amd graphics are in 16 million colors. Now to be able to work with the graphic we are going to enlarge the area around it. First use the psp color picker and pick the background color in your picture for the bottom palette.Go to Image then Canvas Size and enlarge the area around the picture.I enlarged 200 by 200 your picture will look like this. |

Pretty scary we just lost our graphic. Not really it is still under our new layer.So to be able to see the bottom layer we need to bring up our layer palette like the picture to the right.See the red circle --by clicking on the hour glass looking thingy and sliding it you will notice the top layer will disappear the more you slide it to the left. I have slid it to about 50 so that I can see both layers now. |

Now we will choose our mover tool and by clicking on the graphic I can move the top layer over----positioned over the graphic better. I've just noticed that my graphic is larger than the area that the picrure in my sprite so I am going to remove the top layer for a moment and resize my graphic. I do this by hitting Ctrl and z on the keyboard.I hit it a few times till the yellow sprite is gone. Now to resize my graphic I go to Image then resize and make my graphic smaller.I then repeat the steps of Edit then paste as new layer, the slider thingy again and the mover tool again.Our graphic will look like this now. |

Now we will choose the sprite called Tile 2 and like before we click Edit then copy.Now choose the graphic again and paste this as a new layer.Like before all you will be able to see is the second sprite, so go to the layer palette and slide the slider thingy again.Then use the mover tool to move this sprite around until it perfectly matches up (lines up) with the other sprite. See the pic at the righjt Now for the cutting part. Now if you look at your layer palette the bar for Layer 2 is dark blue that means it is the active layer. Choose your majic wand tool and click on the graphic. Now go to selections and click invert. Now go to the layer palette and select the background layer. Now Edit then cut . You have literally cut the bottom layer in the shape of your sim sprite. Now choose Tile 2 sprite and go to Edit then paste as new layer -- using the mover tool pull the cut out directly over the original sprite till they match up exactly.Your sprite will look like this .... |

Now go to the layer palette and choose layer 1 Choose your graphic again and use the Majic Wand Tool again to choose this layer and go to selections and invert. Then go back to the layer palette and choose the background layer then Edit and cut. Now lay this as a new layer onto the Tile 1 sprite and adjust it with the mover tool till it fits over the picture exactly . Almost done ---- now save your sprites and import your sprites back into t-mog and you should have a finished picture for your game . |
